Mrs. Yosten and I read aloud at the public library today. I read Where the Wild Things Are and Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! Mrs. Yosten read The True Story of the Three Little Pigs and The Pigeon Wants a Puppy.

What books are you reading this summer?

Summer Websites

Hi. I have added another part to the side of our blog. Scroll down and look under the Comments paragraph on the right. It is a Live Binder of links to websites. The binder will be updated anytime I add new links. I will probably post about the new link as well.

What are some websites you and your family like to visit?
You can answer by adding a comment to this post.

Take care,
Ms. Kellogg

Our Wild Selves

We are all just a bunch of animals!
The last week of school, we went to Build Your Wild Self and played around. This website is connected to the New York City Zoos and Aquariums. After we selected animal parts, we read about how those parts were useful for their animals.
Try it yourself! www.buildyourwildself.com

How To Videos

We reviewed math by creating little videos to teach other people how to do something. We also have been learning about using "I statements" to express our feelings when we ask someone to stop being mean. Students planned out their pictures and their words before staging pictures. We used Photostory to put together the photos and voices.

Google Earth and Google Maps

Our last story in our reading book is called Cross Country Vacation. The family takes a two week road trip. I used a program called Google Earth to show the students the places that the family went. We also looked at a picture of our school and our town from the sky. Google Earth is a free program that you have to download onto your computer. You can go here: http://earth.google.com/ to find it.

You can also see photographs of our town, or anywhere else in Google Maps. That is a website that you do not have to download. http://maps.google.com/
After you type in an address, click the button that says Satellite
to see the map as a photograph.

You can use the + and - to Zoom in and out.

Questions Answered

We wrote our answers to the first grade questions and then recorded them. I inserted the video clips into the VoiceThread video below. Please check it out!

Questions for us

Mr. Fisher's class is a first grade bilingual class. They have asked us some questions about what it will be like in second grade.

Answers to our questions

Miss Zaleski's class left us a comment. Click on the comments button under the post about Storytown questions. Then go look at their blog to see their answers.

Questions for Miss Zaleski's Second Grade Class

We have read the same stories as Miss Zaleski's second grade class. We decided to ask them some questions about those stories. Maybe they will ask us some questions!

Would you let the pigeon drive the bus?

We read Mo Willem's book Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! In the book, the bus driver asks us to watch over his bus while he is gone and not to let the pigeon drive the bus. Of course, as soon as he leaves, the pigeon starts pleading with us to drive the bus. We wrote persuasive letters. Some are addressed to the bus driver and some are addressed to the pigeon. Some of us think the pigeon should be allowed to drive the bus and some of us do not think the pigeon should drive the bus. Look at our pictures and press play to hear each of us read the letter we wrote. We would love you to leave us comments.
